Since the accident I have never walked. Even to just stand up gives me difficulty.
I put everything down to the fact that I banged my head on her car roof. Receiving a head injury. Linked with the lack of help and support from the NHS since. I SO realize that they have to work to a budget, allocating their time in accordance to progression. But since I have been paying, myself !, to see a holistic massage lady, I have really improved. My symptoms are so similar to those of a stroke victim. I have very poor use of ALL my right side. I find it difficult to even speak clearly. As I have said, I can no longer walk. But my strangest disability, and the reason I have lost my licence, is that my eyes close involuntary every minute. And I then struggle for a further couple of seconds to re-open them. I do have Botox injections to try and release the eye muscles, but the effect is only slight and it doesn't last long, about 2 weeks.
But my walking, I AM happy to say, IS improving. Although I have a balance issue, I have also had difficulty in actually straightening my right my right leg, and arm. Due to the bones calcifying. As they have never had any attention paid to them, by the NHS.
This is why it has taken my therapist so long, as she has had to undo all of the harm that has set in !
Nearly another year had passed, making it 11, long and tedious years since our accident.
I know this is such a long time, but I AM still of the opinion I WILL walk again !
Especially as I can now stand and take 10 steps, turn and take 10 steps back to my wheelchair, turn and sit down. All without any assistance. And although I walk along the side of my bar, it is only as a last resort. I am happy to say, that I very very infrequently have to grab it !
I realize that this will not come across as such an amazing thing to do, but believe me IT IS !
